As talks aiming to not less than quickly cease the combating in Gaza proceed in Cairo, Egypt’s earlier Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy informed DW that neither Israel nor Hamas will seemingly settle for a long-term peace deal. But he added that given the human value even a ceasefire and change of Palestinian detainees in Israel for the hostages taken by Hamas on October seventh could be some progress. Fahmy, chatting with DW’s Sarah Kelly, mentioned that the chance of wider battle grows larger the longer violence in Gaza continues. He mentioned the one method to discover lasting peace is a two-state resolution on the premise of 1967 borders and if that’s not pursued, the militant Islamist group Hamas would proceed to function.
