Cuban exiles in Germany are sounding the alarm after US President Donald Trump threatened to "take control" of Cuba.
With long‑standing ties between Cuba and the former East Germany (German Democratic Republic – GDR), many German‑Cubans fear what this could mean for families still on the island. By 1989, some 30,000 Cubans had moved to the GDR for training, work and education. René Limonte Brett was among them. Now living in Berlin, he says he fears for his family in Cuba.
