German Defense Minister tells DW Chief Political Correspondent Nina Haase that his country’s boost in military spending is being welcomed on the other side of the Atlantic. "We did everything we could do" Pistorius says, speaking at the Munich Security Conference. "I think the United States realize that and acknowledge that. And at the same time, the tone changed on both sides."
Asked whether Ukraine still needs the long-range Taurus missiles which Germany could provide, Pistorius puts the emphasis on technological advances Kyiv is already making.
"They achieved developments in the last, especially 12, 18 months, which are really impressive when it comes to drones and missiles, long distance drones. They are really very successful. And we see the effect in Russia." He also says he thinks Ukraine could do without Taurus. "I think they don’t need it really."
