President Donald Trump hosted another lavish party at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Friday as the longest federal government shutdown in history continues and millions of Americans go without federal food benefits.
A menu posted online showed guests in Florida dining on filet, scallops and a dessert on the same day that the Supreme Court ruled the SNAP food program that 1 in 8 Americans rely on would not be fully funded amid the shutdown.
Guests at the party were seen wearing tuxedos and gowns and enjoyed a night of opera performances, according to The Daily Beast.
It’s now the second Friday in a row that Trump has hosted a party at his Florida resort. Just hours before millions of Americans lost federal food aid earlier this month, Trump hosted a lavish “Great Gatsby” themed party at his Mar-a-Lago resort. The theme of the night was “A Little Party Never Killed Anyone.”
“The Great Gatsby,” a 1925 novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, explores themes including the decline of the American Dream and the corrosive power of wealth.
And on Saturday, Trump lashed out against Democrats in a post on Truth Social.
“The Democrats are winning in that they are destroying our great, miracle economy, which is exactly what they set out to do. TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER!” Trump posted.
Under Trump’s regime, inflation is skyrocketing along with grocery prices.
As he wrote his post, Trump was en route to go play golf.
