Zahara Jolie-Pitt is moving forward with the legal process to officially change her name. According to court documents obtained by E! News, the 21-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt has completed another required step in California’s name change procedure after filing a petition in June to remove “Pitt” from her surname. As part of the legal process, Zahara published notice of her petition in the Los Angeles Daily Journal, a requirement under California law. The notice must run for four consecutive weeks before a court can finalize a legal name change, giving anyone who wishes to object an opportunity to file a written opposition. Zahara previously filed paperwork seeking to change her legal name from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie. The filing came just weeks before she graduated from Spelman College with a degree in psychology. Observers also noted that her father’s surname was not used when she was recognized during her graduation ceremony. She is not the first of the former couple’s children to make a similar decision.
